Hillary in 2008

A few friends have recently told me, Hillary might win the primary, but no way will she win the general...I beg to differ...

And there is plenty of encouraging news for her in the latest Time poll. More than half of those surveyed -- 53% -- said they had a favorable impression of her; she registered higher than the other most familiar names in the potential Democratic field, Al Gore (49%), John Edwards (46%) and John Kerry (45%).

Clinton does best against McCain
Her negative ratings (44%) were lower than either Kerry's or Gore's. In hypothetical matchups with the preseason GOP favorite, John McCain, Hillary is the only big-name Democrat to make a real race of it, with McCain edging her by just 2 points among registered voters. By comparison, McCain would trounce Kerry by 10 points and Gore by 9.

shouldn't the question be, not whether she will win the primary or the general, but do we want her to be president?

i don't know yet where i stand on the issue, and have been known to vote for the more "electable" candidate in the past, but i'm beginning to wonder whether that's the way to go...

I don't vote in the primary based on most electable...and my motives vary depending on the year and the climate. I supprted Dean because I thought it was important and gratifying that someone was unapologetically being a Democrat.

Hillary I like because:
1. She's passionate about issues important to me like children and health care.
2. She's an effective elected official - the fact that she has managed to win the begrudging respect and cooperation from Senators who said she was the devil and swore they would never speak to her is an unbelievable testament to her coalition-building skills.

She's not pefect - no candidate is, but she's pretty darned good. Plus, I just miss having the Clinton family in the White House...
