Oh, and Have I Mentioned?

That frequently when Kai starts to go into a tantrum, he stops himself, lies down on the floor, and stretches out quietly for a few minutes? Why can't I learn to do that?!?

That's AMAZING. One of the little boys that I work with, Julien - his mom tells me that he has asked her if they could have some sort of plan to help him calm down when he starts to get into a fit about something. It's so interesting to see children with such a strong self-awareness and demonstrating that this behavior is really not something they want to do, working out ways of getting themselves back on track. It's really amazing.

That's the thing - I think kids really crave and want tools to help them cope - when they have tantrums, or "act out" - they're not being "bad" as many people like to think of it, nor are they in desperate need of punishment. They are just experiencing an emotional intensity that is beyond their ability to describe or explain, they are overwhelmed, and they are crying out for the adults around them to give them tools, to be with them lovingly, and to show them what they can do instead...

How did he figure that out? Did you model it for him?

Aww this is beautiful! I couldn't agree with your comment more - I too believe that children aren't "acting out" or being "bad" (or 'good' for that matter) and love the idea of giving them tools to help with being so emotionally overwhelmed. What a beautiful Mama you are:)

Thanks for stopping by my blog - Aria's 2nd birthday is coming up and I'm just about to start making some tree blocks so would LOVE some links as you mentioned. I'm also very interested in dyeing some play silks but have never done any dyeing before and wouldn't know where to start. Do you use natural dyes?

Nice to 'meet' you:)
